As you can see, tnaim.org has had a bit of a makeover. We hope you'll take a moment to look around, and let us know what you think. Better yet, why not get involved? If you're American Indian living in Tennessee, then we're looking for your input. Our goal is to publish the history of this state relevant to American Indians from the perspective of American Indians. Unlike the white-privileging versions already available in print and online, we don't intend to "whitewash" the facts, even if it means tarnishing a few colonial sons. We also plan to show that more than five tribes occupied this state, that Indians occupied this state prior to the arrival of those five tribes, and that there were intertribal agreements between those nations. So take a moment, register for a free membership, and then come along with us as we begin to travel back and forth through time exploring the real history of American Indians living in Tennessee from the beginning of time through today. |

Our primary goal on tnaim.org is to document the history of American Indians in Tennessee. One of the ways we can meet that goal is to catalog and/or transcribe manuscripts and other articles relevant to Tennessee American Indians. One such manuscript is Let the People Speak. The Tennessee Indian Council: A History and Analysis of the Development of Native American Programs in Tennessee. The manuscript was authored by Michael White at the request of Fritz R. Niggeler, then Executive Director of the Tennessee Indian Council, and was published in 1979. Over the next few weeks, we will be working to transcribe the manuscript and include it here on tnaim.org. |
