Two Rivers Mounds: Two Cultures - One Goal

About Us

We are a grass roots coalition of individuals and organizations working to stop planned development of the Two Rivers Mounds site, and to see that the site is left undisturbed, in tact, and forever preserved and protected as both a national historic landmark and conservation trust.

Updated Information: We are now accepting online and mailed-in donations and will soon be selling a t-shirt to raise money for a possible legal action to stop development, and toward the purchase price of this site. Please visit our Donations & T-Shirts page for more information! Donations are being accepted on our behalf by Wisdom Keepers, Inc.

Please note that we are not sending people out to collect on our behalf. Our fundraising will be limited to the online donations and t-shirt sales, collections during the duration of a coalition scheduled protest (see "Get Involved for schedule), and letter writing campaigns to specific philanthropic and corporate entities. Any individual soliciting donations in person or at an unscheduled protest should be considered suspect and reported to tworivers at tnaim.org or by calling 865.609.0574.

Who is Redhawk Mason?

Redhawk Mason, Chiricahua Apache, moved to Tennessee 5 years ago. For those same 5 years, he has worked to protect other Tennessee burial sites including Townsend, Tester Lane in Pigeon Forge, and now Two Rivers. He has also worked to expose cultural exploiters here in Tennessee. Prior to arriving in Tennessee, Redhawk worked with various groups on issues in Arizona, New Mexico, Indiana, South Dakota, and the Onieda Territory. Redhawk has been an activist for Native People since 1989.

Redhawk Mason is not a member of the TN Chapter of Autonomous AIM or any other organized chapters. Unfortunately, journalists do not always understand the subtleties of wrongfully affiliating individuals with certain organizations. Therefore, we are providing the following statement from Redhawk:

"With regard to the Pitman Center article published in the Mountain Press in August 2004, and any other articles past or future: I, Redhawk Mason, did and do represent myself as an independent and individual member of the American Indian Movement by virtue of my birthright as an American Indian man and my duty to protect and preserve the People and our culture. I did not and do not represent myself as a member of the Confederation of the Autonomous American Indian Movement. I did not and do not represent myself as a member of the National American Indian Movement. I did not and do not represent myself as a member of the Arizona Chapter of the National American Indian Movement. With specific regard to the Mountain Press article of August 2004, the reporter misquoted me regarding my affiliations within the movement and wrongfully assumed and reported others in the meeting as being with the Movement despite their statements that they were not affiliated but there as interested Native people only. To date, the paper has refused to print a correction of the misinformation."
